THE 2024 USL-W Central Conference Champions
This page recognizes and honors the Detroit City FC Women’s Team’s first trophy and USL-W Central Conference Championship season.
The Regular Season
Eighty teams comprised the USL-W 2024 season. City was placed in the Central Conference Great Lakes Division which involved a 12-match schedule against AFC Ann Arbor, Cleveland Force SC, Flint City AFC, Kalamazoo FC, Michiana FC Lionesses, and Midwest United FC. The team went undefeated, chalking up 10 wins and 2 draws, including two wins against Midwest United FC, a team that has always beaten us, which crowned them the Great Lakes Division Champions.

At no point during the season was Detroit City FC behind in a match.

The weekend of July 5-7, Keyworth Stadium hosted the Central Conference Semi-Final and Final. Indy Eleven, last year’s USL-W champions, topped the Valley Division with 7 wins, 2 draws, and 1 loss, would face Minnesota Aurora FC, the leader of the Heartland Division with a record that matched City’s 10 win, 2 draws, 0 loss, but had a massive +55 goal differential. They would play at 4PM on July 5th. We would play the wildcard team, River Light FC who finished behind Aurora with an 8 win, 1 draw, 3 loss record.
July 5, 2024 Indy Eleven 2, Minnesota Aurora FC 1
July 5, 2024 Detroit City FC 3, River Light FC 0
A bright, sunny, hot July Sunday afternoon set the stage for the Central Conference Final between City and Indy Eleven.
July 7, 2024 Detroit City FC 3, Indy Eleven 1
Indy Eleven opened the scoring in the 7th minute, but the lead was erased in the 20th minute on Emily Pagett’s goal. These 13 minutes have been the only time City trailed in 1,260 minutes of play. Sophia Romine scored just before the first half concluded, and Kayla Addison sealed the victory in the 75th minute.

Unfortunately, the national championship season was derailed by the Colorado Storm, the Western Conference Champions.
Detroit City FC 1, Colorado Storm 2
City opened the scoring in the 11th minute with an outstanding strike from distance by Avery Peters, assisted by Emily Pagett. Colorado equalized in the 36th minute with a goal by Reese McDermott. The remaining 54 minutes were a battle, hinting at an extra time period. However, Reese McDermott scored her second of the match in added time, and City couldn’t level with the few minutes remaining. Undefeated with only 13 minutes of playing from behind, the only way City would lose was an added time goal. But it doesn’t diminish the 1,350 minutes of a brilliant season.
