The morning after the night before.
Last night, Detroit City FC won the 2020-21 NISA Championship with a 1-0 victory over the Los Angeles Force. Less than 24 hours later, the U-23 team traveled to Lansing to play Lansing Common, on a blistering hot afternoon.
City came into the match atop the table, with a perfect 9-0 record for 27 points with five matches remaining. Lansing Common is their closest competition, with a 5-1-1 record for 16 points and seven remaining matches. A victory by Lansing here would make the final matches of the season interesting.

Unfortunately, that was City’s highlight of the match. Lansing scored two goals just before halftime – Nolan Canlas in the 43rd minute, after Shady Omar sent the ball forward, giving Canlas a 40-yard run down the right channel and beating Ellis to the far corner, and Julian Birge with a massive shot from over thirty yards out in added time. Lansing added a third in the 78th minute from a header by Aidan O’Connor from a corner kick.

The U-23s suffered their first loss of the season to the only team that has a chance of catching them, setting up a key match at Keyworth in two weeks.
