Lake St. Clair FC came out with a little fight, mustering the first chance in the first minute of the match. They did create a little pressure in the early minutes, but City shifted the flow of the game toward the Lake St. Clair end of the pitch.
In the 36th minute, City set up for a corner kick. Shion Soga delivered it into the box and Brady Walker headed it past Lake St. Clair FC’s keeper Matthew LeBlanc.
In the second half, Waseem Muthana and Zion Beaton subbed in, creating new energy in the offense.
In the 53rd minute, a little give-and-go between Shion Soga and Waseem Muthana opened Lake St. Clair’s back line and Soga scored, giving City a 2-nil lead.
On the ensuing kick off, the play went into the City end. A hungry Cooper Haskin took advantage of a miscommunication in front of City’s goal and erased the two-goal lead. It was the last threat of attack by Lake St. Clair FC in the City end for the rest of the match.
Zion Beaton finished the evening with City’s third goal in the 88th minute. Alejandro Steinwascher and Beaton broke through the defense. Steinwascher’s shot rebounded off the goal post to the foot of Beaton. Beaton directed the ball into the goal.
Player of the Match: Waseem Muthana
