Neighborhood kids create their memories of sneaking into Keyworth to see City’s reserve team play.
The story of the first half belonged to City and Livonia keeper Michael Forbes.
City dominated in possession and chances. Alejandro Steinwascher had two opportunities in the first twelve minutes. The first sailed over the goal and the second rolled just past the post. The seventeenth minute saw a series of defense-cutting passes between Sanad Yahya, Steinwascher, and Zion Beaton which ended when Beaton’s shot rose above the crossbar.
In the 18th minute, Livonia City FC was caught with a handball in the box, which resulted in a penalty kick. Sanad Yahya drilled a low ball toward the post, but keeper Michael Forbes dove and pushed it away.
Forbes continued to stymie City’s offense throughout the first half, ending the forty-five minutes with a nil-nil scoreline.
The second half continued with City dominance and Forbes’ skill between the posts.
Then, Shion Soga subbed in, which ratcheted the pressure up another notch.
Finally, in the 81st minute, Kellan Landefeld cut a pass back to Caio Mazo who curled a shot inside the far post and out of reach of Michael Forbes.
Livonia City tried to generate something in the final ten minutes, but a defender took Soga down in the box in added time. Forbes guessed wrong on Soga’s PK, and City took the match, two-to-nil.
Player of the Match: Caio Mazo.
The U-23’s winning streak goes to five matches. Their sixth match of the season would be in Pontiac against Inter Detroit in two days.
And, it was a six-point night for City as the Women’s Reserve Team defeated Legends FC 3-1.
